Relations between Turkey and Liberia

The Turkish Embassy in Accra is accredited to Liberia. Liberia has an Honorary Consulate in Istanbul, which was opened in 1996.

In the scope of recent high-level visits, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia H.E. Agustine Kpehe Nagfua visited Turkey on 12-16 May 2014. This was the first visit from Liberia at the level of Foreign Minister. On this occasion, three agreements (cooperation in the field of education, visa exemption and MoU on cooperation between Ministries of Foreign Affairs on educatin were signed. In addtion to this, H.E. Mr. Toga Gayewea McIntosh, Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which was held in May 2011 in Turkey. On this occasion, he had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, former Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs. Minister McIntosh also visited Turkey on the occasion of the Africa-Turkey Partnership Ministerial Review Conference, in December 2011.

A Turkish police contingent is serving in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

The Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) conducted some projects in Liberia in 2006 and 2008. Turkey provided humanitarian aid to Liberia through the World Health Organization in 2007.

Bilateral trade volume has been increasing over the past few years and reached 67 million US Dolars. Turkey exports mainly ships, iron and steel products, cereals and cereal products, mechanical and electrical machinery spare parts to Liberia. Turkish imports include mainly wood, lumber rubber, and hulk.

15 University scholarships for bachelor’s degree granted for 2016-2016 academic year by the Government of Turkey to the Government of Liberia.
